HAPO Community Credit Union

Flashcube Business Center Workplace | Design Build

the goals

Transform an aging local landmark into a Class-A business complex.

Project Background

Since its formation in 1953, HAPO Community Credit Union has grown to over 90,000 members and $1 billion in assets, with centers throughout Southeastern Washington and Northern Oregon.

In 2011, HAPO purchased a half-occupied 52,500 square-foot facility, known locally as the Flashcube Building, to house an additional branch, a regional mortgage center and space for future offices. The credit union chose Momentum to design a unique, branded business center to support HAPO’s continued growth and contribute positively to the community it has served for more than 60 years.

Forward-Thinking, Unique

Local residents were curious about what would happen to the Flashcube Building, one of the area’s most distinctive landmarks. HAPO assured the community it would give new life to the building, and this promise infused Momentum’s plans.

The Momentum design included a new entry and drive-thru, updated multi-tenant core and amenities to improve the building’s marketability and update the overall character. The new energy-efficient window systems and HVAC systems support HAPO’s goals for energy conservation and sustainability, offering improved efficiency, comfort and air quality for all tenants. Extensive technology infrastructure upgrades helped bring the aging building up to digital standards, powering a state-of-the-art training suite and improved connectivity throughout. A new full-service branch was added.

"Momentum has a top-notch team. Ever since my first informal conversation with Jim Haack about the concept, everything has been fantastic.” - Steve Anderson, President & CEO / HAPO Community Credit Union

Momentum Moment

The most visible symbol of the transformation is the addition of a high-resolution LED display spanning 900 square feet.

The Momentum team suggested the idea as a unique way for HAPO to put its stamp on the building and did extensive research into local codes and manufacturers to make it happen within the budget. The result is a dynamic display alive with crisp, colorful graphics and video imagery.
