Seattle, WA (December 15, 2016) – Momentum, Inc. has broken ground on two new branches for TwinStar Credit Union. The branches are based on a new flexible prototype design, developed in partnership with SUM Design Studio + architecture, that represents the credit union’s first foray in to an evolved operational and delivery mode.
The branches are located in two very different markets, the Portland suburb of Hazel Dell and the small coastal city of Aberdeen, both in southwest Washington State. The prototype focuses on a universal associate model and a modern take on TwinStar’s brand identity, but each branch is customized for the needs and transaction volumes of members at their particular location.
The Aberdeen branch is 5,000 square feet and will function as a financial hub for Aberdeen, bringing a full range of financial services to a relatively underserved area. The building is a ground up construction project designed around teller pods for staff mobility and high transaction volumes, with dedicated spaces for loans and other consultative services. High ceilings and a design aesthetic that focuses on openness and natural light create a comforting environment for employees and members in one of the rainiest communities in the country.
The Hazel Dell branch is a smaller 2,600 square foot tenant build-out in a more pedestrian oriented retail hub. Local market demographics favor mobile banking for routine transactions, resulting in lower transaction volumes and a focus on consultative services in the physical branch. In lieu of a teller line or pods, the Hazel Dell branch features conversation areas similar to a kitchen island or café where branch staff and members can sit or stand and discuss banking issues in a more personal and informal setting.
This new flexible prototype allows TwinStar to provide a diverse branch network to serve the specific needs of each of their targeted markets, evolving the traditional branch model into truly personalized banking.
“We’ve been working with TwinStar for over seventeen years,” said Jim Haack, President of Momentum. “This relationship has given us a lot of insight into how service needs, technology, and brand must be adaptive to the local culture and demographics of a fast growing regional credit union like TwinStar. I believe it has not only given us a better understanding of how credit unions can maximize impact but also enables us to develop tailored branching strategies that naturally align with their identity and goals.”
Momentum’s project team is on track to open the Hazel Dell location at the end of the year and Aberdeen early this spring.
