Elmhurst University Breaks Ground on Health Sciences Building

Elmhurst University organized quite an eventful groundbreaking ceremony on the afternoon of 12 October 2023 for their new $30M, 45,000 SF Health Sciences building, and Momentum is proudly serving as Construction Manager. We have partnered with the university on a vast array of complex projects over the past 5 years, and this long-awaited project is so meaningful and impactful for all involved.

This unique facility will allow the Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Communication Sciences and Disorders programs to share academic, clinical, administrative and simulation space in an interdisciplinary focused environment, while the Jans Military and Veterans Center and the community accessed Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, will also be located in the facility. The principles of universal design have been applied throughout the facility, so that all users and visitors have equal and unencumbered access to the built environment. The program is also seeking LEED certification, the world's most recognized rating system for planning, constructing, and operating sustainably designed (green) buildings.

Momentum has worked closely with the university's cabinet, buildings and grounds committee, and board since the development of the program's plenary session, which was presented almost 2 years ago, and the plenary session was organized in such a manner to ensure alignment with the university’s 2019 master plan. The university team is also actively processing supplemental STEM grants, energy grants, rebates and incentive programs.

As the program advances from design development through construction documents, the Momentum team will be addressing the balance of jurisdictional and permitting activities, as well as organizing prime contractor work packages. Work will be solicited from local, Chicagoland contractors and efforts will be made during the bidding process, to include historically underrepresented firms. The facility is scheduled to be complete in Q2 of 2025 and site demolition and field activities will be ramping up in Q4 of 2023. GO JAYS!
